On the 19th, the Transportation Security Administration or the TSA announced that is growing TSA Pre program will be adding a new process which will allow more United States Citizens to be able to enroll in the program. Designed to help frequent U.S. travelers travel more quickly and with less hassles, the TSA Pre is a trusted traveler program which right now is available only to certain travelers and at certain airports throughout the United States.
TSA Pre Benefits Include:
- Expedited screening through dedicated lines
- Keep shoes on
- Leave on jackets and belts
- Keep laptop in case
- Keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids in carry on
Until this newest process which will allow U.S. citizens to apply online and visit an enrollment site, travelers had to opt into the program through an airlines frequent flier program or be enrolled in a Trusted Traveler Program including Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS. Now with the new enrollment sites slated to open later this year in Washington Dulles International Airport and Indianapolis International Airport and plans to expand additional sites later, the number of citizens who will have access to this service will increase greatly. To date, over 12 million Americans are part of the TSA Pre program and access to the benefits can be found at over 40 airports throughout the United States.
Those who take advantage of the newest enrollment sites will be required to provide:
- An $85 enrollment fee for 5 year membership (may be subject to change as this is the anticipated cost)
- Background Check
The reason for TSA Pre is quite obvious to those who travel by air as enhanced security has increased wait times and lines throughout the United States making the time and effort to check in for flights one of the biggest complaints by travelers today. While security is necessary, many have been hopei9ng for a risk based type of check in and that is exactly what TSA Pre is all about.
