For years all you would have to do is pick up a copy of the latest gossip magazine to discover where someone had recently seen The King. While Elvis is no longer with us in body, he is still all around in spirit. If you still want to experience all that is Elvis, all you have to do is head to Memphis. His legacy haunts more than just Graceland in this southern city, and Elvis fans will enjoy visiting all the places that the King once hailed from. A tour of Sun Studio on Union Ave in Memphis is where any die-hard Elvis fan should start. This is where Elvis got his start, recording his earliest tracks. Sun Studio is now a museum to the many that had their beginnings here. You can take a tour and pose for pictures with the legendary microphone that Elvis once crooned into. Sun Studio is open daily from 10AM until 6PM, and tours run all day at half past the hour for $12 a person.
Take a little bite out of history and stop in at the Arcade Restaurant on South Main Street. This is one of the oldest restaurants in Memphis. Elvis’ favorite booth was in the back of the restaurant, and hopefully that is where you can score a seat. If not, you will likely still not be disappointed with where you end up sitting once you bite into their famous sweet potato pancakes. Arcade Restaurant is open daily from 7AM until 3PM.
You might not be able to rest your head at Graceland but you can stay at Elvis’ former apartment. Located at Lauderdale Court on Exchange Ave, this is where Elvis lived with his parents from 1949 until 1953. The apartments have been renovated into a condo community and Elvis’ old apartment #328 has stood the test of time and has been decorated in the era of when he lived there. You can stay here for $250 per night.
